VRMA Advocacy: Why It’s Important to the Vacation Rental Industry

October 9, 2019

Here at Xplorie, we’re big believers in giving back to our industry.

We work hard to identify vendors and organizations that can benefit our property managers to help them grow their vacation rental businesses.

One organization that we’re extremely proud to be a part of as both a sponsor and a contributor is the Vacation Rental Management Association. The work they do on behalf of the ever-evolving climate within the vacation rental industry is vital.

What is The VRMA and What Do They Stand For?

The VRMA is an advocacy organization that is dedicated to the further development of professional and traditional vacation rentals as a safe and reliable option for consumers. Committed to working with policymakers they develop fair and balanced regulations to benefit communities and the global vacation rental market.

It’s no surprise, with the tremendous growth of the vacation market, to see an ordinance appear on your local city council’s meeting agenda. As private vacation rentals have grown in popularity, so has the number of local regulations and the communities mixed feelings toward them.

Many property managers may be aware of possible or pending regulations, but have no idea how to effectively combat the issues. The VRMA works with property managers and provides some resources and tools to help. Their Advocacy ToolKit offers videos and tips on how property managers and owners can organize, create an alliance, engage members, fundraise and get the message out to others in the community.

VRMA Advocacy Organization Tools and Support

Once you’ve organized, the VRMA has tools that can help you to inform and engage with policymakers. Keeping them informed is critical to ensure that you are a stakeholder in any regulatory discussions.

VRMA Voice: Messaging Guide: A tool to help promote professional vacation rental managers and for responding to policymakers.

Economic Impact Studies: Very useful for showing policymakers the importance of the vacation rental market in your location.

Existing Alliances and Groups: The “Connect” tab in the tool kit can help you find a local alliance near you.

The VRMA and these tools can help your cause and will work to build relationships with your local public officials.
